Kavárna Pavilon is a warm, open spaced cafe that always has room and is a good option for meeting up with friends in chilly or wet weather. A quiet kid’s corner is available to cafe patrons which you overlook from your table. The corner is unattended so you must keep a good eye on your kids.

A guest report by: Dagmar McCaffrey, The Villa

Are you wondering how to escape the dull winter months that has been impaired by the smog situation? Well I might have the answer for you. The place you want to find yourself in is called Tropical Islands. It’s a 3 hour drive to Germany, count 4 hours if you plan to incorporate toilet breaks or a lunch break. On arrival, which by the way is very well signposted and easy to find, there is plenty of space for parking, then just gather up the family and enter a paradise that awaits you in the ‘dome’.

Slonikov Indoor Playground with Restaurant,  Prague 5

Indoor Playgrounds, Restaurants and Cafes on 28 December 2011 by Darina (1 comment)

Somebody had a great idea to open this NEW, large Indoor Playground with babysitting for kids from 2 months!!!. It has replaced the Time Out Indoor playground at the Galerie Nove Butovice Shopping Mall. Slon in Czech means Elephant and Slonikov stands for Elephantville. This explains the theme of the playground and big elephant slide dominating it. It’s actually a restaurant/cafe with the play area divided by a fence. The food is good and the choice wide. Free Wi-Fi provided.

Don’t let the winter pass you by without trying outdoor ice-skating. This particular rink is located very close to the banks of the Vltava River and is actually a part of a larger public playground (Verejne Hriste). It’s just a stone’s throw away from Hospital Na Frantisku (Nemocnice Na Frantisku) and has special equipment for hire to help children learn to skate. At the end of the article we also give you a few further ice rink recommendations.

Stuck indoors with restless little folk? Cold weather, short days and lots of flu means that we are all spending a lot of time indoors these days. Make the most of this quiet time of year, illuminate your indoor space with lots of candles (carefully placed) and get your kids creative by trying out some of the following ideas.

Family Christmas Carols, Prague 1

Events on 05 December 2011 by Larissa

This lovely tradition began just last year thanks to the hard work of a local expat mum. The idea is to gather families to sing English Christmas Carols within a church whilst accompanied by a church organ. Last year my daughter and I hiked to St Thomas Church in Mala Strana through half a metre of snow to experience this special evening. Lucie was enchanted by the beautiful church interior and despite the cold, the families that gathered considered it a success and one worth continuing.
