Just for Mums,
Sports and Fitness

After giving birth to Ari back in May I felt the need to get back to some form of exercise. Yoga has helped me so much over the years and really does give me strength both physically and mentally. So it was great timing when Prague Yoga emailed their new schedule which included a new Yoga class on Tuesdays specially catering for mums with babies aged 6 weeks right up until they start to crawl.

This family-orientated bowling venue has a total of 12 lanes, 4 of which have barriers for children. Weekends are designated as Family Days and it only costs 150 CZK per family to rent a lane for one hour between the hours on 11am-4pm on Saturdays and 11am-6pm on Sundays (subject to change).

I have browsed the web to give you an idea of where to go with the kids in next few months. Since many events are advertised in Czech, let me help you with my difficult mother tongue. What I strongly recommend is the Dino Show. Produced by the BBC, we saw the advert for it on TV and WE ARE GOING!!! Click through to see footage from the show. Dates are 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 February.
The dinosaurs will walk the Earth again and you can be there!!!
Indoor Playgrounds

I think I am a bit spoiled by the Clovickov Indoor Playground in Zlicin because this new Clovickov Indoor Playground in Prague 4 looks like a poor sibling in comparison. When I went to cover it I was thrilled that they had opened something indoor for kids at Budejovicka street. I thought that this important traffic hub was missing something like this.

So these last few weeks Karen, Darina and I have been busy celebrating Christmas in our own unique way… David, Lucie, Ari and I had a White Christmas at home in Prague (at -14c) before flying to Sydney for a Beach Christmas (at 28c) with my extended family. Karen and her boys also headed to Sydney on the same day and on the same flights as us! So we were able to experience the delight of long-haul travel together, sharing our stories when transiting in Seoul before the final leg to Australia.

It’s winter-time and there is nothing worse than having to spend all your days couped up inside with the children. So, get up on your feet and go out and do something. Even if you just go out during the morning or the afternoon, you and the kids will feel 100% better and you’ll be glad to be back home again at the end of it! Here are my top 5 activities that I like to undertake with my kids in Prague during the winter months.

Are you just like me - stuck indoors with restless little folk? Cold weather, short days and lots of flu means that we are all spending a lot of time indoors these days. Make the most of this quiet time of year and get your kids creative by trying out some of the following ideas.

In the Czech Republic, the skiing seasons begins in earnest in mid-December and wraps up towards the end of March. The spa town of Janske Lazne, is located on the eastern part of the so-called Giant Mountains, which form the highest cluster of mountains in the country. It takes about 2 hours to get there by car, if you are driving from the centre of Prague.

We previously introduced Family Center Andilek to you. Now they’re organising a Multicultural Fellowship on 18.12 (NB: there is a mistake on the ENG flyer) at 3 pm for foreigners living in Prague who are interested in meeting other families and discovering what center Andilek can do for them. This can be a good way to find some NEW Friends in Prague and get to know some of the local families too. Entrance is FREE

This weekend the streets of Prague will be overtaken by colourful, costumed trios made up of Svaty Mikuláš, Čert and Anděl (St Nicholas, the Devil and Angel). Why, you may ask? Well the simple answer is that they are seeking out kids to find if they have been naughty or nice!
