Beckiland Indoor Playground, Prague 5

Indoor Playgrounds, Day Trips on 13 October 2008 by Karen (2 comments)

Beckiland Indoor Playground labels itself as the ‘largest family entertainment centre in the whole of the Czech Republic’. It is certainly the largest indoor playground that I have ever visited in Prague.

Located directly on the grounds of the Avion Shopping Mall, to the average shopper, the entrance to Beckiland does not immediately indicate the presence of anything more than a medium-sized toy store (Pompo toy store graces the bottom floor) but just past the cash counter there is a flight of stairs that leads to an indoor play area spaced out over almost 6000 meters square with more than 20 individual attractions guaranteed to please every age category.

The attractions are spaced out over a large area and interspersed with little tables and chairs (many in the shapes of mushrooms), for parents to sit down and rest their weary feet. The first thing that one sees, is a large wooden climbing frame, with suspended bridges and nets all around, obviously mimicking the jungle. Directly opposite there are several vertical climbing walls. One of these even has ropes that climbers can be harnessed into for an authentic mountaineering experience.

Both of my boys were intrigued and initially a bit frightened of the ‘bouncy volcano’, which basically looked like a circus roof top. Once climbing to the very top, it was only a matter of conquering one’s initial fear before hopping back down again- a very smooth landing always guaranteed.

Little ones were mainly kept entertained in the large fenced off area containing ball pools, slides and little houses. Another fun area was the so-called ‘Jungle fun box’, which was a complex multi-leveled climbing frame containing slides, ball pools, a fun shoot arena and a multitude of other compartments for young ones to play in and explore. Three-year-old Albie, absolutely loved this section and could have happily spent the whole afternoon playing only here.

Little scooters and tricycles were scattered for use around this indoor playground complex, and never seemed to be left standing unusued for long. Another fascinating exhibit for Albie, was the huge bouncy castle in the shape of a crocodile. Every now and then its whole mouth would close, gobbling up (safely), its little victims inside. An automated train running around an explorer cave was also hugely popular.

Older children, including seven-year-old Robbie, gravitated towards the numerous trampolines (of many different shapes and sizes), mini go-kart track and small field used for playing football or shooting baskets. There were also a few arcade games such as air hockey, table football and car racing game (this cost an additional 20 CZK to operate).

To feed and fuel hungry stomachs, there was an extensive choice of snacks, hot meals and drinks to choose from. The bistro was serviced by a crew of staff behind fast-food restaurant type of cash registers. Payment was made with the chip, installed into the wrist band of each paying person (from ages 2 and up). We found this cash free, pay everything as you leave system, very convenient.

The bistro itself was complimented by a large seating area with wooden tables, chairs and benches. When we arrived, someone was just celebrating their birthday there. Beckiland organize birthday parties giving parents the choice of 3 separate packages which you can read about here in more detail.

It was a cold Saturday afternoon when we visitied Beckiland, and eventhough there were quite a few people around, it did not feel over-crowded. There was so much space and so many attractions that there was always something new and a people- free area to explore. The entire place was very clean, the toilets spotless and with baby changing facilities. It was also pleasantly air-conditioned with plenty of Beckiland T-shirt staff patrolling the area. We spent 2 hours playing non-stop, but could have easily stayed for a lot longer. Our boys loved it.

I am supprised that nobody comments Beckiland, I visit it with my son marek (3 and half) and he really loves it. I was there last week and I was suprised, there were only about 10 children so it was only for us and we enjoyed it very much. Usually we spend more than 4 hours there.

I visited Beckiland yesterday with my 3.5 year old son.  He loved it and we stayed for 3 hours.  He especially liked the giant climbing structure with nets/slides/balls.  There were so many people there, I was concerned I’d lose him so I went into the structure with him.  Unfortunately, I had a giant, heavy purse that I brought with me.  After 30 minutes of dragging it around I went to see if they offered locked cubbies to stash it. To my surprise they didn’t have them—just open cubbies.  Next time I’ll know not to bring it so I can play easily!
