Birthday Parties at Clovickov Indoor Playground, Prague 5

Birthday Venues and Ideas on 05 March 2010 by Darina

My friend Maria and I chose Clovickov Indoor Playground to host the 3rd birthday of our sons. Here they have a separate room for birthday parties where you cut the cake, have a dance with the mascot and eventually all the kids go out to play at the Indoor Playground. It’s a perfect set-up and we were more than happy. All we had to do was to book and organise it.

If someone speaking Czech can help you – then it might be better. I am Czech, so I had no problems but Maria - my friend from Ecuador had communication problems with the staff. l eventually took care of the communication and arrangement of the party.

Firstly, you have to call or drop in to book a date. You should know how many kids you are planning to have over, the calculated cost is based on this figure. When agreed to you will have to go there in person to finalise the order and discuss details. You will be given a form where you will fill out all the information they need such as the name of the birthday kid, the number of kids invited, if you want decorations etc. They will present you with a catalogue of birthdays cakes and finger food for adults. The choice of cakes is WIDE beginning with Thomas the Tank Engine and ending with a Cinderella cake. The cake costs around 500 CZK. The choice of finger food is very basic. The only things you can get for adults are typical Czech items such as chlebicky or slices of baguette decorated with ham, cheese, tomatoes - you name it. One little chlebicek will cost you 19 CZK.

Our chlebicky got eaten although the package for kids included either an ice-cream sundae or ham and cheese toast. The kids were already filled up on cake so we ordered the toast for the parents. Since Clovickov Indoor Playground belongs to the cafe downstairs you can order anything form their menu if you wish such as toast or pancakes with different fillings, salty or sweet.

You should decide at the beginning if you are willing to pay for all the drinks and extra food ordered. Otherwise you may find yourself unexpectedly presented at the end with a final bill for everything. That can be a bit dangerous.

I have another piece of advice. The birthday room is booked for 2 hours as part of the package. Every extra hour is 80 CZK per child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have 10 Kids - so that’s almost 1000 CZK for an extra hour!!!! Mad. Yet again - you will probably not need the room for so long. It’s a stupid rule anyhow. We had problems keeping the kids inside the room so thank goodness for Maria’s Pinata which stopped them from escaping! After they run off to the indoor playground, the adults can sit outside the room at their tables happily enjoying each other’s company. You can then let the room go after 2 hours.

The fee for 1 Child is 180 CZK and consists of:
2 hours party room rental (capacity approx: 10 - 15)
1 Ice-cream sundae per child or Ham and Cheese toast
2x soft drinks (usually Jupik - juice drink)
Play area entrance
Small present for the birthday child hidden in a special hiding place
Colorful Invitations (we requested them by email in English, or they will print them out for you with the name of your child on it - quite handy
Birthday Room decoration, their plates and cups and balloons. Maria brought her own decorations because her boy is very much into Cars. She also made him a homemade McQueen cake - although only later did we find out that they do not allow you to bring your own cake. If you wish to take your own cake - just tell them your child is allergic and has to have a special one.

We ordered a mascot, a yellow Harribo Bear. It cost us 400CZK and he stayed for 30 minutes, gave small presents to the birthday boys and danced with the kids. All of them loved it - I highly recommend you to take it. You can also get a party attendant - Czech speaking. You can also bring your own babysitter or - as i did - get enough relatives so you can talk to all you friends attending. I didn’t have to worry about my boys too much because my Mom, Dad and Sister came along. Very practical.

EXTRA CHARGES:
250 CZK party attendant
400 CZK Harribo figure that delivers the birthday cake, stays for 10 min (that was probably our Snoopy!)
250 to 500 CZK for the birthday cake

After the party, all kids get free entry to the play area
