Birthday Parties at LIttle Mole, Prague 2

Birthday Venues and Ideas on 25 August 2010 by Larissa

Since Christmas Lucie has been begging for a birthday party. Heaven forbid we have lots of kids racing through our apartment, especially with the man downstairs complaining earlier in the year. Knowing how her and her friends are prone to hyperactivity I needed a space which included an outdoor play area - that’s when I thought of the Little Mole in our local park…

The Little Mole Kindergarten is one of the more recent English language schools which has been operating from within this gorgeous local park since late 2009. It also rents reasonably priced indoor and outdoor space for events. I had been to a leaving party back here in November and was impressed by the venue and the friendliness of the staff who helped manage the party for my dear friend.

I had an initial meeting with Magdalena who outlined the basic cost of 2500CZK for 3 hours hire of their gym, 2 playrooms, kitchen and outdoor playground/garden. This fee also included decorating the rooms plus use of all toys and equipment. We also discussed extras for an additional fee such as teachers who would prepare and run a program for kids, photography and catering. As an example she mentioned a recent party where the hosts were returning back to Italy and had requested pizza’s and other Italian treats to be served to their guests. It seems everything is possible, it just depends on your theme and budget.

As we were expecting a rather large group of guests (we held a double birthday celebration with our friend Sasa), I chose to employ two native english teachers to entertain and run the children’s program for the whole 3 hours. This was a fantastic investment as the kids were continuously entertained, thus leaving the adults free to socialise, eat, drink and be merry. It also allowed my friend and I the opportunity to make sure that our self-catering efforts were displayed and replenished when necessary and we even had time to chat to our guests too!

We set a theme of Princesses and Pirates to allow the kids to ‘dress up’ in their favourite costumes and this theme continued into the teacher program. A treasure hunt took place, face painting enhanced the cute costumes, physical challenges were set as well as lots of storytelling, questioning and colouring in. My friend and I specially requested our regular ‘pinata’ treat (which was resurrected from Lucie’s birthday party last year) and pin the tail on the donkey.

Unfortunately for us we had a bit of light rain on the day but as the party continued the weather started to fine up and we all were able to go outside and enjoy the playground, the pinata and most importantly the trampoline which was a real winner with all the kids.

Little Mole is located at Riegrovy Sady 38 (you enter the park from Italska Street, opposite the Poliklinika) the setting is very peaceful and quiet as it benefits from being located in the leafy and tranquil park. The location is very secure, with a high fence around the site; you need to press a buzzer to be let in. On entry to the space you have available a good sized room for prams, shoes, coats and bags, there is also an immaculate children’s bathroom (and thankfully an adult toilet too) as well as the well equipped kitchen and a room suitable for food and drinks to be served in.

In summary, Little Mole is a great venue for any season - fantastic for warm, sunny days and big enough to satisfy kids with cabin fever on cooler days. I love the fact that it is in the park; trees and grass is your only outlook. Again, I must give credit to the staff, dealing with them was very pleasant and the teachers were fantastic too - all in all, our rather large party was (sorry!) a piece of cake!
