Prague Playhouse is back with another great English-language theatre production! Charles Dickens’ classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey of self-redemption at the hands of the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, has been given a new lease of life with this exciting new musical adaptation.

Czech director Julek Neumann, who has over 30 years’ experience acting and directing in theatres across the world, has drawn on the traditions of a Greek chorus by staging an ensemble cast of singers to interact with Scrooge (played by Peter Hosking) and guide him through the story. Julek said “ Musical director Emmanuel Placier has integrated traditional carols and seasonal songs with the original Dickens text. He says his intention is to “have the music to move together with this great story, to fit each one of the many feelings the characters invoke, from love, nostalgia, and happiness, to anger, despair and even terror”. Along with the traditional music, Emmanuel has also composed his own original pieces to add to the score. He feels that “sometimes the music stops being merely an accompaniment to the characters and becomes a character itself”.

A Christmas Carol is in English and is suitable for all ages from approximately 10 years upwards. It will play for 6 performances (November 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 & 26) at 19:00hrs at the Literární Kavárna, just a 10 minute walk from Narodini Trida metro and tram stop.
