Based inside the Metrople Zlicin Shopping Complex, this Family Fitness Centre has something for everyone. Aerobics, spinning, pilates, yoga, work-out classes for pregnant women, kids’ gymnastics as well as a children’s play area and infant babysitting available from 2 months onwards.

The owner, Ogla Sipkova is a Czech Republic aerobics champion and has several fitness centres all around Prague. This one is the most family-orientated and I have been coming here with and without my boys over the past 2 years.

The main fitness section is equipped with a wide range of techno-gym machines most of which are cardio focused. If you bring in your own head phones, you have the option of plugging them into your machine and can either listen to music or watch TV on one of the 7 plasma screens running 7 different channels. In the other section, you can take part in numerous aerobics classes including power yoga, step, pilates and even belly dancing.

I haven’t come across any other fitness centre where you can also drop the baby off in the kids corner while you do your workout. Here, the kids play area is situated in the main work-out hall. A special foil on the windows ensures that you can see them but they can’t see you! This way, at every stage of your class or workout you can also check to see what your off-spring is up to and they are less likely to get ‘hysterical’ (not) seeing you work your heart out.

The staff will come and get you only if your child gets really upset. From my experience, the baby sitters always try their best to keep the children occupied and to calm them down as much as possible, in order to allow you to workout in peace. Over the past 2 years, there have only been very few occasions on which a baby sitter has had to take Nicolas out of the kids play area, soothing him in such a great way, that I was till able to finish my power yoga class. The play area is equipped for babysitting children form 2 months onwards. The babysitting costs 60 CZK for the first 2 hours and 30 CZK p/h thereafter.

A great plus with this fitness centre, is that you don’t need to be a member to use the equipment or to take part in a fitness class. I find this very practical. An entry fee of 130 CZK gives you the freedom to join any of the gym classes (60 minutes). A one-off entry to the fitness section will cost you 140 CZK. If you decide to leave some credit and pre-pay 1100 CZK, one entry will cost you only 110 CZK and the credit gets deducted with each visit. This credit is valid for 3 months.

The more credits you buy, the bigger the discount. A minimum cash advance of 500 CZK for any other goods or services such as drinks, solarium acess, towels, energy bars, entitles you to a 5% discount, whereas a credit of 1000 will reward you with a discount of 10%. Always check and make sure what ‘package’ you’re prepaying for. I was disappointed once to find out that my yoga class entry credit did not automatically entitle me to get a discount for the gym entry as well. The credits can be combined but you need to tell the staff (they do speak English) in advance.

As far as the workout classes are concerned, I can strongly recommend the Tuesday 0930 power yoga class run by Karel. I love the way he teaches, explains everything, and constantly walks in between all of us to ensure that we are exercising correctly and effectively. The majority of the class participants are mothers who want to get (or stay) in shape but are not necessarily interested in doing workouts that will leave them feeling exhausted afterwards. When I walk out of there I always feel relaxed, energized and what’s most important - without a backache.

On several occastions I have also taken the boys to Gymnastics Classes tailored especially for kids. You can read my review by clicking here.

Special workout classes are held for pregnant women every Tuesday at 10:30 and Thursday at 15:30

If your kids still have energy to burn then you can take them to Clovickov Indoor Playground just around the corner, and enjoy some coffee and cake while watching them play.
