I have taken the boys several times to gymnastics classes for kids at Family Fitness Sipkova. The whole class takes usually about 45 min and starts with kids and parents sitting in a circle where we sing a welcome song, then we sing and clap through a few more songs. After this the kids play with big rubber balloons and with the help of parents they hop, bounce and roll around and eventually join in a ball race across the room.

Part of the class is educational, teaching about colours and traffic lights. Kids have to start rolling the balls according to the colour of the traffic light, that the instructor pulls out. She was happy doing it in English too.

After that parents build a monkey lane out of different equipment for kids to walk on. They have to fulfill different tasks, like passing through a loop, jumping on trampolines, hoping over the barriers, sneaking through a tunnel, etc. The boys were thrilled with it all. At the end there is some rhymes, singing and walking in a circle.

Classes are divided into two age groups: 1-2 year olds and 2-4 year olds although there is not much difference between them. The reason being so that the small kids don’t get ran over by the older ones. Having both 18 month old Nicolas and 2.5 year old Marcus, Nicolas just has to join in the older group.

From what I have heard, they organise similar classes over the weekend. In one of the aerobic rooms they prepare the monkey lane and kids can go crazy, running around and playing. We have never made there it yet, but it is on our to do list. I think it might be very nice for the whole family.

They require that you register for the kids classes. You will need to obtain an ID and password to get into the on-line reservations system. You also have to purchase a credit. I found this too complicated, so I usually arrive 15 minutes early to enrol and we are let in without trouble. I have never experienced problems getting into the classes, but in the winter months it could prove more difficult.

If you do make the reservation on-line you can cancel your booking 6 hours before class free of charge. After that they will charge you the full entry fee.

If your kids still have too much energy, take them to Clovickov Inside Playground just around the corner from the gym and have a coffee while they are playing.
