Guest report by Pauline Galea
When it came to choosing the venue for Emilia’s 3rd birthday party we looked at a couple of places, however due to the fact that we needed it inside and that the kids invited were mainly 2-3 year olds we opted for Amadito & Friends. We wanted something cozy where the children wouldn’t end up running all over the place and for parents to not have the worry of looking around for their kids.
Amadito & Friends which is situated in Prague 5 (Smíchov) is in reality an international bookstore which sells extremely nice children books for all ages (English, French, German & Czech ) which makes it nearly impossible to walk out empty handed. They have this nice event room which is about 45m square and can hold up to 12 kids, though in my opinion if the kids are of a very young age it can take up to 15. The room is at the back of the shop which can be closed off and thus does not interrupt any business activity upfront. Just outside the event room there is a sitting area where parents can have a coffee (and ideally cakes) and thus making it close to impossible for the kids walk out of the party room unnoticed.
The rent is CZK250 per hour plus a fee of CZK200 for the cleaning thus making it the cheapest venue that I found in Prague.
Amadito & Friends came up with three entertainment suggestions however we still had the option to find alternative entertainers. The options were Azyzah Entertainment, Baby Agency and Viktorie Grohova. They all have different programs which are suitable for different age groups.
Our choice was a Baby Agency and this was simply because we felt that it was the most suitable for 2 to 6 year olds. Barbora who is the person who takes care of birthday party organization was of great help and she is extremely good with kids. The cost of the babysitter which is 1 sitter for every 5 kids was of CZK200 per hour. Also they can set up the playroom for you, get toys, and buy all the party supplies which you need, plus give-away toys for the kids. Any party theme that you would wish they would cater – our choice was easy – a princess theme costumes for girls - though we also kept the boys in mind and had pirate theme costumes for them.
The program that they offer can be adjusted to ones wishes; you can have crafts, drawing, music, story reading etc. The approximate cost was about CZK 6,500 including 3 baby sitters for 2 hours (CZK 200 per hour per sitter), thank you gifts for all the kids (13), dress up toys, room rental for two hours, cleaning fee, decoration of the room, party supplies & toys hire. In addition to that we paid another CZK 1,000 for the birthday cake which was nicely decorated but more importantly it was yummy :-)
As for the food & drinks we had to provide it ourselves, but I was more than happy to do it since I love baking and cooking. Also a suggestion; don’t forget to provide something for the parents like coffee, tea and a couple of sandwiches and cakes – they are always appreciated. At Amadito they have a small kitchenette equipped with a kettle, sink & microwave so one can heat up things if the need arises.
The only set-back is that the shop closes at 1800 hours thus giving you about 2 hours for a party during the week on school days (considering that most of the kids finish school at around 15:30). However there is the possibility to have it on a Saturday morning. In our case two hours was enough for the kids to play games, draw, have a story reading and most importantly eat the cake.
