Swimming Activities on 14 November 2009 by Karen

During the cooler months of the year, visiting one of Prague’s indoor Swimming Centres, must be one of the best activites that you can undertake with your kids.

The Letnany Lagoon Swimming Centre is very conveniently located directly behind the Czech Republic’s largest shopping complex, OC Letnany If you go by car, then there is plenty of free parking directly next to the Swimming Centre as well as all around the rest of the Mall complex. You can definitely combine your visit with a spot of shopping for just about anything imaginable at OC Letnany Shopping Mall, which can also easily be reached by public transportation.

As this is one of the closest Indoor Pools to where we live, in northern Prague, I come here with my sons quite frequently.

The complex also offers other facilities such as a fully equipped gym which holds aerobics classes, and a sauna plus solarium, but I am yet to try all of these things out. All I can tell you about is the swimming, which is great here. There is one large swimming pool (25m), an 86m long water slide, a wading pool with a slide for the little ones plus 2 whirl/massage pools which are good for children as well as adults. The large swimming pool is divided in half, one half of which is restricted to serious swimmers and the other to children (and adults) wanting to fool around.

If your kids get sick of swimming, then there is a trampoline which can be used by paying a nominal fee to one of the life gurards on duty and there are also other water toys (photos and prices of which are stuck up on the side of the lockers on the pool side), available for hire.

Once you’ve paid your entrance fee, you will be given a black plastic bag for your shoes, which you must take off prior to entereing the locker area. Locker hire costs 10 CZK and the money is refunded once you vacate the locker. There are plenty of cabins where you can get changed and if you’re swimming with a baby, you will find a baby change table withing the Family Cabin (Rodinna Kabina) itself. The ladies‘ and men’s showers are located to the back of the cabin area and you are required to shower prior to entering the pool.

There is a small cafetteria on both the entrance and pool side, equipped with tables and chairs. It offers a selection of drinks, snacks and some hot food such as nuggets, chips and hot dogs. Children’s birthday parties can be organized here, and I have witnessed a few myself. There are also individual and group swimming classes available at Klub Delfinek (for both adults and children),  but you would need to make a special enquiry about getting an English-speaking trainer.
