Here’s a guide to how Lake Lipno with kids can work including all inclusive attractions and activities and the best way to spend a great time with your family. You name it. We spent 8 days at Lake Lipno last summer (originally we booked 4 days and we kept prolonging it) the kids had a blast and we know better now….
We started with Granny’s tent that holds 3 people max in a camp called: Kemp Modřín. The next day we upgraded into a Tee-pee within the premises and eventually we rented a 2+1 tent with kitchenette. Tee-pees and tents you have to book beforehand, but we were lucky that the people who booked didn’t arrive. Lucky us! My husband is 6.4 feet and his legs were sticking out of the small tent. I wont upload the picture…. :-)
There are other camps in the area. Another one is in Frymburk which is approx. 6 km away form Lipno, built mainly for Dutch tourists. We went to check it out and apart from water inflatables for kids our camping was better equipped. You can book a hotel or an apartment directly in Lipno town. Our camp was 3 km away from Lipno town where there are many of the attractions, restaurants and shops. Some of the properties in Lipno can be quite costly but you can find all facilities in the town of Lipno, including private Doctors and Cosmetic Salons.
HOW DOES IT WORK AT THE CAMPS?
1. Preferably, make a reservation for a standing tent. (the standing tents have little kitchenette, kitchen utensils, a small fridge and…. electricity - Imagine our family with 4x phones, 4x iPads, camera and my eletronical cigarette! It also has propper inflated materaces.
2. If you have your own tent - drive in, register, find a spot, build the tent. (I suggest you pick a spot far from the restaurant and the Kids playground) You will receive plastic cards with credit to use the facilities. Showers, Laundry corner etc. This card will beep everytime you use the facilities. You can always top it up with more credit if needed, its not expensive. You can also charge you electronic devices during dinner at the camp restaurant and if you get lucky, there is a charging station with lockers. It was a constant battle until we managed to move to the standing tent (with electricity).
3. If you have a trailer - book your place ahead to ensure connection to electricity. You might be lucky and they might have a spot free for walk-ins.
4. Book a hotel - and you are set
TIP: If you decide to go camping - do not arrive in the camp like we did. Total big city Greenhorns... without a single match or axe… we learned the hard way when the kids wanted a bonfire…. borrowing everything from the neighbours and the sleeping bags from the camp reception. Check on-line what the basic camping equipment should be and TAKE insect repellent! And if you are an experienced camper - huraaaah!
The whole lakeside is covered with in-line tracks, biking trails, forest paths and if you don’t want to stay on land then rent a boat, paddle boat, paddle board and spend the whole day out on the water. Or sit on the beach the whole day and let the Kids unleash in the water.
We did something different everyday and when we arrived back in the camp Modrinevening there was a lots to do. Table tennis, tennis, beach volley, bonfire… even mice catching…. :-) courts and tennis tables are for free. You just come and play when they are vacant. You might want to take your racquets and balls and other sporting equipment.
The water is clear and refreshing. Sometime there is a bit of mud at the entrance to the lake which will not throw you of balance :-) Offshore from the camp there is Rabbit island where people wade out or swim to. There are rabbits and guinea pigs that live there, so for the kids entertainment bring some carrots with you (not if you swim there I guess…)
In the neighbouring Hotel Amenity to ours we rented paddle boards and it was awesome fun. Especially when I had an Aperol spritze before boarding the paddle :-)...in my white summer dress….. nothing I cannot do in my white summer dress :-) You can walk to the hotel directly throught the beach. Hotel Amenity is one of the best in the area with a nice restaurant, outside grilling, bowling, tennis courts, water sports, and many other facilities.
