It’s clean, cosy, child-friendly and very easy to reach with public transport. The outdoor swimming pool complex at Na Stirce (Koupaliste Na Stirce in Czech) is a stone’s throw away from Kobyliske namesti and has a total of 2 swimming pools.

The large pool measures 42.5m by 16.5m and at the deep end, reaches a depth of 2.3m. The young children’s pool is round with a mushroom-like fountain in the middle, a small waterslide and with a gradual descent goes to a maximum depth of 0.8m.image

Once you have paid your entrance fee, there are change rooms with private cabins available for both men (muzi) and women (zeny) and these can be found directly opposite the payment window.

As you walk down a small flight of stairs, you will notice that the entire area around the pools is covered by soft, green grass and the low-lying houses, trees and shrubbery surrounding the grounds give it a very relaxed, serene kind of a feel. Many young families or just mothers with their little ones come here but there is always the odd top-less beauty sprawled out on the far edges of the grass, soaking up the sun to the max.

If you do not like to have the sun shining on you all day, then there are sun umbrellas for hire which will offer great protection and the deck chairs (also available for hire) will make your stay even more comfortable. Should you prefer to just do your laps (in peace), up and down the pool for a bit, then use the lane which is always marked off at the edge of the swimming pool labelled with the Czech sign: ‘kondicni plavani’.

You will find a relatively good choice of food here (hot dogs/parek v rohliku, salads, fried cheese/smazeny syr, french fries/hranolky etc) and plenty of wooden tables and benches, fully covered by large umbrellas, to sit at. Little children will find additional entertainment provided by a small jumping castle. Older kids may enjoy a quick game of table tennis, hockey or even a go at one of the several arcade games which are available.

For adults, there is also a sauna and a wide range of massage treatments on offer. I have not tried either of these, but when I checked out the massage price list on the official website, I did find that the cost for a 90-minute sports massage, at only 590 CZK, to be pretty good value. To ensure a massage spot, a prior booking at tel: 775 040 142, was recommended.

OPEN: Monday-Sunday: 9am-7pm, when the weather is warm.
