Events, Activities, Day Trips on 04 October 2010 by Larissa

October for many is the start of Halloween which often involves harvesting your own pumpkin for carving. One farm just out of Prague has been offering this experience to family groups for a few years now. The deteriorating weather also marks the start of storytelling activities all over the city, in English and for all ages. Lots of things are going on and there are more exciting things happening soon, so stay tuned!

Pumpkin Picking
A fun way to spend a cold autumn day is to organise a visit to Brotánek Farm which is 35 km from Prague. For the kids enjoyment they will be able to pick out their own pumpkin as well as pet the farm animals (goats, rabbits, turkeys, chickens, possibly a pony) and play with some toys such as a jumping castle.

Also for sale are smaller pumpkins, bouquets of dried flowers and gourds. Food is often available, best to check with the farmer when you speak with him to arrange your visit.

The farm is open throughout Autumn. You need to first call or email English-speaking Jan Brotanek to arrange your visit. He can also cater to visiting groups by offering home cooked speciality foods eg. pumpkin soup, pumpkin pies and grilled meat. I’ve heard from a couple of parents that an autumn visit to Brotánek Farm is one of the highlights of the year and a must not miss occasion.

If you would like to make new friends and join a group that is already going then IWAP (International Womens Association of Prague) has organised their annual visit to the farm on October 9. You will need to register with the organiser Ulrike Glauner via email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by 5 October stating the number of attendees and ages of children.
