Zofin Garden Restaurant is located next to the picturesque Zofin Palace, a stone’s throw away from the National Theatre building. It sits on Slovansky Island, surrounded by the Vltava River so is a perfect venue during the hot summer months.

When my husband and I arrived there for the first time with our 2 boys Albie and Robbie (3 and 7), for Sunday lunch, the atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant. A few other parents with their young off-spring had already settled themselves at a table close to the play area, which is probably the restaurant’s piece de resistance. It has a climbing house with 2 swings and a slide, lots of large and colorful soft-foam blocks for building, a mini trampoline the obligatory table and chairs for coloring-in, as well as a wooden play-pen with toys to keep the little ones entertained. The play area is directly connected to the restaurant, and has a hedge surrounding it, so parents can rest assured that their kids will not fall or jump into the river.

The feel of the restaurant is very open, green, fresh and summery, with pleasant breezes constantly coming through from the river (but there is a roof in case of rain). The ground is covered by faux grass and sprouts a few fake orange trees, and there is also a large gazebo, with more tables, right to the side of the play area.

The menu is international, with a few Czech favorites and there is quite an extensive kids menu to satisfy both sweet and savory cravings. The kitchen is open-view and the restaurant prides itself on its year-round grilling capabilities (we had the flame grilled burgers which were just delicious!). During weekends there is also a ‘babysitter’ available from 12pm, to help keep an eye on the playing children.

The service was a little slow but still friendly, and since the kids were able to run around and play outside, it did not matter. In closing, I’d score Zofin Garden Restaurant 8/10 for food and 10/10 for their play area.
